Who We Are

Who We Are

WELCOME to Y.A.B.A

The YESHIVA HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION

WE ARE Y.A.B.A.

  • We are not the NBA: we trained harder and had much more team loyalty and unity. We are not the NFL: when you fell we picked you up and if you were injured we said “refuah shelema” (even if you played the same position on the team).   We are not Major League Baseball: though some camp softball games were just as competitive.  And we are not a College Basketball League: there was little or no trash talking at our games…… We all answer to a higher power than a commissioner.   We are the subject of conversation on almost a daily basis among current and former players of the Yeshiva High School basketball league.

WHO IS Y.A.B.A.

  • Anyone who ever played, coached, or managed in a Yeshiva High School Basketball game the last 60 years is now a “member” of Y.A.B.A.
  • Anyone who ever saw a, read or wrote about a, cheered at a, Yeshiva High School Basketball game or Camp game in the last 60 years in now a “friend” of Y.A.B.A.
  • Anyone who has spawned a player in THE YESHIVA LEAGUE has been grandfathered in as an “elder” of Y.A.B.A.

WHAT IS Y.A.B.A.

  • We are a brotherhood. We are group of identified proud Jewish individuals who are connected by our love of basketball, Israel, philanthropy and THE YESHIVA LEAGUE. We have created a network of individuals ready to share high school memories, reconnect with long lost friends, participate in philanthropic projects and honor individuals for their positive contributions to their Jewish communities and association with THE YESHIVA LEAGUE. Our venture into the world of reminiscing and good deeds has evolved into an annual spring dinner attended by family and friends.  We induct a new class of well deserving and well respected players, coaches, and administrators into the YABA Hall of Fame and acknowledge the positive accomplishments of some of our members.

WHERE

  • This year’s dinner is at Congregation Keter Torah 600 Roemer Ave Teaneck, NJ 07666
